AVHS Announcement

  • Dear Students, Parents and Families,

At this time every year I send a letter home welcoming you to our upcoming school year. This year we are starting our school year under unique and challenging circumstances, but this does not change the fact that the teachers and staff at Anderson Valley Jr./Sr. High School are looking forward to another great school year. We are excited to see all of our students back at school, even if for the time being, that is through a computer screen. We have been working hard all summer to prepare for an engaging and enriching school experience no matter where or how we will be connecting with our students. It is our sincere hope that we will be able to see our students face to face and in our classrooms soon, but until then, we will still be providing the highest quality educational experience possible.

Below you will find important information about what school will be like for our students when they start on Tuesday, August 25. We will be working to adapt to changing situations, so you will continue to receive information and support as we make accommodations. Please go over this information carefully and reach out to me or the office staff if you have any questions.

    Distance Learning

Until further notice, all school will be conducted through Distance Learning. Students will be meeting with their teachers every day on a modified schedule (included in this letter). Students will need a working computer and internet connection, both of which will be provided by the school district if needed. All students will receive a Chromebook laptop computer to take home and use for distance learning. Our goal is to provide internet hotspot devices to students who do not have internet access. Please see more information below under “Technology”

    Classes

Students will be expected to log in every day to their classes starting at 10:00am. Each student will be assigned to a Learning Cohort. These groups will meet every day in a Homeroom from 10:00-10:15. Attendance will be taken and teachers will work with students to make sure that they are connected and have everything that they need for their school day. After morning announcements and organizational activities, students will then attend their classes until 3:30pm. There are designated times for breaks and lunch throughout the day.

At the start of each class period, students will log in to participate in a live video conference with their teacher using the Google Meet application (included with their laptop). Once attendance has been taken, the teacher will engage students in a variety of activities depending on the class. Students can expect that they will not always be on a video call with their teacher for the full hour, but will have a variety of activities to complete during that time.

    Technology and Internet Access

We understand the challenges that families will face with internet access, especially living in a rural community. We will first be providing internet hotspot devices to families who have no internet access. If you have any problems with accessing the internet, please let the office staff know. We will do everything we can to find solutions for anyone with internet access problems.

Each student will receive a new Chromebook laptop computer and a carrying case that will be checked out during our Orientation Days (see scheduled below). We will also be distributing school supplies and materials during this time.

    Attendance

Students are required to attend school virtually every day. Attendance will be taken at the start of every class period and Homeroom, just as if students were present at school. This is required by California State Law and Education Code.

    Orientation Days

Please stop by the school during the designated time listed below for your child’s grade level. You will be picking up schedules, computers, materials and textbooks for your child’s school year. Please wear a mask and respect proper social distancing. If you have children in more than one grade level, you may stop by once during your oldest child’s designated time.

    Thursday, August 20:

    9:00am- 12:00pm Grade 7

    1:00pm - 4:00pm Grade 8

    Friday, August 21

    9:00am- 12:00pm Grade 9

    1:00pm - 4:00pm Grade 10

    Monday, August 24

    9:00am- 12:00pm Grade 11

    1:00pm - 4:00pm Grade 12

    Parent Support

One of the most challenging things about distance learning is supporting your child through the distance learning experience. At Orientation day we will be providing resources and information for parents on how to best help your child learn from home, and the school will be providing regular support services for parents.

If at any time you need extra assistance with distance learning, please contact me directly at jsnyder@avpanthers.org or 707-895-3496. I am always available to help.

    Thank you,

    James Snyder

Principal, Anderson Valley Jr./Sr. High School

  • Dear Parents and Guardians,

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, Anderson Valley Unified School District will be postponing the first day of school until Tuesday, August 25. Additionally, all classes will be held through distance learning only until further notice. The school sites will mail letters to families that will give more detailed information specific to your child's grade level, class assignments, and directions for students to attend school through distance learning. If you have any questions please contact the District Office at 707-895-3774.

Thank you, as always, for your support and cooperation. In spite of these difficult times, we're looking forward to the new school year and we hope you are, too.

    Take care and be safe,

    Michael Warych, Superintendent

    Queridos padres y tutores,

    Michael Warych, Superindendente
