Salary
$14.75 - $15.71 an hour per Range E on the Classified Salary Schedule

Work Hours/Year
6.65 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year beginning August 2019.

Library Specialist II

 

Definition

Under the general direction of the principal and using an automated library system, performs a variety of library duties requiring specialized knowledge of library methods, procedures, and technology; performs managerial, clerical, maintenance, and operational duties of the library; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Duties

*Maintain an up-to-date database of all library books, students, and staff

*Supervise students in the library

*Apply library rules, regulations, and policies

*Assist students and staff in selecting books and in using the computerized card catalog

*Assist students in finding books on their reading levels for class requirements

*Check out books and card and shelve returned books

*Select and order new books and magazines

*Catalog, classify, process, and sort library materials, entering information into a computerized database

*Label all Accelerated Reader books with color-coded tape

*Troubleshoot and provide minor maintenance to library computer system

*Compile and maintain statistical records and reports

*Clean, repair, label, cover, and discard materials

*Assist staff in selecting books

*Inventory and order library supplies

*Inventory library books

*Compile and distribute overdue book lists

*Bill for lost or damaged books

*Create and maintain a flexible weekly schedule allowing all classes library time

*Select and read stories to primary students

*Assist with the before school story-time, including setting-up story-time space, supervising students, recording attendance, acquiring books for prizes

*Maintain and check out 30 AlphaSmarts at the high school

*Check out projector, laptop computers, and art cameras

*Help maintain, schedule and supervise High School Library Lab (25 computers)

*Know Microsoft Office, PhotoShop, PageMaker & scan procedures

 

Minimum Qualifications

 Education (one of the following):

*48 or more college units

*AA Degree

*High School diploma or equivalent (must pass district proficiency examination)       

Experience:

*Previous experience working with children and any combination of training and experience which would indicate possession of necessary skills and abilities to manage a library

Knowledge of:

*Library and computer skills

*Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation

Ability to:

*Type and use computer databases

*Use office machines

*Work independently

*Deal pleasantly and efficiently with students, school personnel, parents,

and the public
