Maintenance Person

Under direction of the Maintenance Specialist, to perform maintenance, construction, and repair work on or in school buildings, grounds and custodial; to perform related duties as required.

Maintenance Person Salary

$14.75-$15.71 an hour per Column E on the Classified Salary Schedule based on experience.

Benefits
Employee will be a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) to which both the employee and AVUSD contribute. Employee will receive Health, Dental and Vision insurance for employee and their family. Employee will also receive two weeks paid vacation a year.

Work Hours/Year

8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year. Pending successful fingerprint clearance and submission of a recent tuberculosis test as required by the California Education Code.

Job Description

Definition

Under direction of the Maintenance Specialist, to perform maintenance, construction, and repair work on or in school buildings, grounds and custodial; to perform related duties as required.

 

Examples of Duties

Prepare surfaces for painting; use brushes, rollers, and spray guns in the application of paints; mix and match paints, stains and finishes; clean and maintain brushes; check equipment for defects; build shelves, tables, rooms (where construction crews are not needed); repair damages where possible; make and hang bulletin and chalk boards; repair locks on doors and cabinets; operate jointers, planers, routers, sanders, drills, table and radial arm saws, and other types of carpentry tools; assist skilled workmen as helper, using saws, hammers, and other hand tools; perform simple operations involving power tools or equipment; assist with electrical or plumbing work where needed. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

            Education

  • Be able to read and write at a level necessary for accurate and efficient job performance

 

Ability to

  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Perform manual labor
  • Work cooperatively
  • Acquire skill quickly in work requiring mechanical ability.

 

            Knowledge of

  • Basic operations, tools, and terms used in building and grounds maintenance

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a laborer, helper, or similar work in the building trades
